Faculty International Office hosts online promotion at O.P Jindal Global University Law School
On the 22nd October 2021, the Faculty International Office (FIO) hosted an online promotion at O. P Jindal Global University’s Law School. Dr. Haris Psarras, Prof Sabu Padmadas and Ms. Song Utz gave talks on our deep collaborations with India, Southampton Law School and O. P Jindal Global University’s joint programmes and international student experience. Jindal Global Law School is globally ranked 76th, and currently the top law school in India.
Our collaboration started from a delegation visit led by Professor Jane Falkingham to Vice-Chancellor Prof Kumar In January 2016. Several bilateral visits ensued in the recent years, including a delegation visit of Faculty of Social Sciences academics and FIO executive officer in 2019. We also have hosted a couple of online meetings since the pandemic to continue developing the partnership. O. P Jindal Global University (JGU) has evolved as our strategic HEI partner enabling opportunities for bilateral staff and student mobility.
India is numerically the second largest source of outgoing international students worldwide and those numbers are expected to increase significantly in the forthcoming 5-10 years in proportion to the growth in the middle classes. JGU is the ranked the top private university in India, and they are also ranked top Indian University in Social Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Humanities. While the Indian Government has plans to modernise and improve the quality of its HEIs this will not happen soon. The Faculty believes that India will prove to be a key market for us in the future and that we need to take measures now to improve our profile and establish strong partnerships.
JGU is an outward looking private university and our priority partner in India. They have a spacious modern campus outside of Delhi. JGU has the added advantage that it can serve to give us a foothold from which to build in India, a challenging market for UK Universities.
