On International Women's Day, the Faculty International Office of Social Sciences would like to share a scholarship opportunity that may be of interest. Five fully funded MSc scholarships for women from South Asian countries have been launched in the School of Mathematical Sciences.

These scholarships are associated with a new British Council programme funding Scholarships for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Women are highly under-represented in such disciplines, with only 30% of students and researchers worldwide being women according to UNESCO data. The percentages are even lower in mathematics and theoretical science disciplines, with corresponding impacts on the careers and earning potential of women: STEM workers earn two thirds more than non-STEM workers.

Mathematical Sciences is delighted to have five fully-funded scholarships from this British Council programme for female students from eligible South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The scholarship enables the recipient to study one of the following three Masters programmes at Southampton:

MSc Data and Decision Analytics
MSc Actuarial Science
MSc Operational Research

These prestigious scholarships will enable talented women to obtain a Masters degree, inclusive of tuition fees, a monthly stipend, travel costs, visa and health coverage fees. The scholarship is also open to women with dependents, and extra support is available for this. These programmes are suitable for students with strong quantitative backgrounds from undergraduate degrees in mathematics, physical sciences and engineering. Graduates from these programmes are in high demand from industry, and these programmes also lay strong foundations for doctoral research.

The application window is now open with a closing date of 31 March 2022. Full details, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, can be found on our dedicated webpage .
