NUFE Spring Programme Promotion
On 10th March 2022, the Faculty International Office of Social Sciences (FIO) and academic colleagues representing our schools, hosted a Zoom session watched live by 30 Nanjing University of Finance and Economics (NUFE) students in a classroom in China. Our last meeting with NUFE partner students was in November. We have joint programmes spanning undergraduate, postgraduate and study abroad in Economics, Business, and Mathematical Sciences.
Dr Rob Angell (Associate Dean International of Social Sciences) delivered the opening address about the long-term collaborations between NUFE and Southampton. Next, Dr Jan Podivinsky (Director of Internationalisation (DOI), School of Economics, Social and Political Sciences (ESPS)) talked about how, as a close partner of two decades, NUFE has been one of the most important partners for ESPS. Dr Carlos Lobo (Director of Internationalisation (DOI), School of Mathematical Sciences) then discussed the vast areas of research within Mathematical Sciences and the opportunities for Master’s progression. Later on, Dr Stephan Onggo (Director of Internationalisation, Southampton Business School (SBS)) introduced himself and spoke in detail about the reputation and success of SBS and the study opportunities available.
Our final staff panellists, Ms Song Utz (Senior Executive Officer, Faculty International Office of Social Sciences) and Mrs Miriam Gómez López (Faculty International Officer) concluded the presentation by giving helpful information about partner student support and accommodation, as well as an overview of some of the campus resources and services.
After the staff panel presentations concluded, we were joined by Qingzhi Li, a current student who is studying BSc Economics and Finance at Southampton on the undergraduate 2+2 NUFE-Southampton programme. Qingzhi delivered an interesting presentation about her time studying at Southampton. We really enjoyed listening to her experiences and thank her for sharing this with us!
Finally, the talk ended with a question-and-answer session, where colleagues further supported students, and Song answered questions in both English and Mandarin. During this session colleagues answered a range of questions, including giving advice about language requirements and pre-sessional courses.
This session received a great response! FIO will continue corresponding with NUFE students and answering their questions before they come to Southampton.
