The University of Southampton
The 14th Generative Approaches to Second Language Acquisition Conference

Travel and accommodation

GASLA 14 will be held in Lecture Theatre A, Avenue Campus, University of Southampton.

View a map of Avenue Campus.

The university is centrally located and can be easily reached by public transport from the airport, coach and train stations (see details below). The university's main campus is Highfield which is only a 15 minute walk away from the Avenue Campus.

Accommodation

We have reserved a number of rooms at Highfield Hall, which is right next door to the conference venue. You will have the option to book rooms in this Hall when you register to the conference. Unfortunately, we can only offer accommodation in Highfield Hall on 6, 7 and 8 of April, this is beyond our control.

For directions to Highfield Hall click here.

Other hotels are available nearby and in the city centre. We recommend The Elizabeth House Hotel and the Highfield House Hotel, they are both near the conference venue. The Jurys Inn is another good option, closer to the city centre.

How to get to Southampton

From Southampton Airport

Southampton has its own international airport with connecting routes to several European destinations. From the airport, the University's Highfield Campus is only a short taxi ride away or you can catch the University's Uni-link service to the halls of residence. Further details about the service are available on the Uni-link website.

Some of you will be travelling to Southampton from one of the London airports or from central London. The following information should help you reach Southampton easily.

From Central London

By train:

Frequent and convenient trains connect London to Southampton. Trains depart from London Waterloo every 30 minutes during the day, and take approximately 75 minutes to Southampton. There are two train stations in Southampton, both rather convenient to the University. Coming from London, the first station is Southampton Airport Parkway, located directly opposite Southampton Airport. This station is slightly closer to the University. There is a taxi rank outside the station.

Train timetables and fares are available online at the National Rail website. There is no need to book your train ticket beforehand unless you wish to. Ticket offices and vending machines are available at Waterloo Station.

By coach:

A more affordable option is to use one of the trains or bus bookable online using the Megabus website. Only a few trains are available on this site, and once booked your tickets cannot be modified or reimbursed.
