Inflammatory bowel disease
We apply exome sequencing, along with immunological and microbiome testing to a rich local cohort of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients in order to better understand the aetiology of IBD.

The genetics of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease study is an NIHR Portfolio adopted study led by Prof Ennis with cross institutional partnerships from University Hospital Southampton (UHS) NHS FT, the NIHR Nutrition Biomedical Research Centre and other national and international collaborators. In this study we work closely with the UHS Paediatric Gastroenterology team, led by Dr Mark Beattie.
Recruitment is ongoing, and the study currently involves over 300 children with DNA and clinical information collected, along with their relatives. This rich cohort is investigated from many angles, including genomic, immunological, microbiome and nutrition research.
