Dr Chengxiu Li
Research Fellow
Chengxiu Li is a research fellow in earth observation within Geography at the University of Southampton.
Chengxiu Li a research fellow in earth observation for the BRECcIA project (Building REsearch Capacity for sustainable water and food security In the drylands of sub-Saharan Africa), her research is to address food production and water availability challenges in sub-Saharan Africa at various scales using earth observation data in an interdisciplinary context.
She is fascinated to monitor land surface dynamics (floods, urbanization, fires, deforestation land restoration effects) using the spatio-temporal analysis of earth observation data and understand their causes and impacts. Particularly, she has monitored vegetation state and identify biophysical and socio-economic drivers of the vegetation dynamics. Before joining in the University of Southampton, she has worked on understanding alpine grassland ecosystems using remote sensing technologies at the University of Zurich, Switzerland for her Ph.D. degree. Specifically, she worked on how environmental variables and human activities affect grassland production and lead to grassland degradation on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.
