Genevieve Agaba is a Senior Research Assistant in Professional Development and Capacity Building within Geography and Environment at the University of Southampton.

Genevieve has been involved in a wide range of international research and development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. The main focus has been the study of local ecological knowledge and ecosystem service trade-offs that smallholder farmers make on a daily basis. She also has 10 years of experience teaching on MSc level modules and supervising dissertation projects. Her current research on the BRECcIA project at the University of Southampton focuses on the impact and efficacy of capacity building activities of the project.

Diploma in Community Based Adaptation to Climate Change (Center for Sustainable Development)

MSc International Natural Resource Development (University of Wales, Bangor)

BA Hons. Anthropology (University of Wales, Lampeter)

Research interests

Local knowledge; ecosystem services; livelihoods; community based development; capacity development; agroforestry; natural resources; participatory research methods

PhD Research

Genevieve is currently studying part-time for a PhD in Agroforestry at Bangor University. The research focuses on the roles that trees play in rural smallholder livelihoods in Uganda and Kenya. Research has been conducted in collaboration with the World Agroforestry Centre and their ‘Trees for Food Security’ project, funded by the Australian Centre for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR).
