Dr Julio Pastor is Research Assistant for Earth Observation within Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.

Research interests

Julio’s interests focuses on the validation of satellite biophysical products, terrestrial carbon uptake, food security, land surface phenology and its link to climate, spatio-temporal analysis of satellite data. Julio is also interested in collaborating with the industry to develop commercial products that incorporate Earth Observation data and technology.

Research Projects

  • Sentinel-3 Mission Performance Centre (S3MPC) Expert Support Laboratory (ESL), funded by ESA.
  • Fiducial Reference Measurements for Vegetation (FRM4VEG), funded by ESA.
  • Ground Based Observations for Validation of Copernicus Global Land Products (GBOV), funded by the European Commission.
  • SPRINT - SPace Research and Innovation Network for Technology

Research group

Environmental Change and Sustainability (ECaS)

Other activities include:

  • Collaborate with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to explore the use of alternative satellite products for the Livestock Insurance Program.
  • Support PhD and MSc students.
