WUN award helps eco research

Published: 21 February 2011

Southampton is part of the World Universities Network (WUN), and in this year's WUN competition for research development funds Mary Edwards and John Dearing (Geography) together with Guy Poppy (Life Science) and Seth Bullock (Complexity Science) received an award to develop a programme entitled "Ecosystem Services, Complexity, and People".

The funding, which will be matched by the University, will be used to host an international workshop that brings academics and practitioners together to discuss how adaptation to climate change can best be integrated into the functioning of social-ecological systems. Human wellbeing is dependent upon food production, water supply, soil fertility and biodiversity, all of which are interconnected, and all of which are likely to be modified by climate change. The Co-Is represent the University-wide Ecosystems Services Research Group and the Living with Environmental Change (LWEC) USRG.
