Prestigious American honour for academic
Neil Wrigley is being honoured for his scholarship and contributions to the discipline at the Association of American Geographers conference in New York at the end of February 2012.
Two prominent sessions on the first day of the AAG annual conference, which have been organized by Professor Gordon Clark (Oxford Univ) and Professor Susan Christopherson (Cornell Univ) , will bring together well known researchers from North America and Europe to honour
Professor Wrigley’s
significant contributions to the discipline.
One paper, to be presented by Prof Neil Coe, Head of Geography at the University of Manchester, and titled, ‘Blazing a trail: Neil Wrigley and the globalization of retail capital’ describes Professor Wrigley’s work as providing “path-breaking contributions to our understanding of on-going globalisation of retail capital.”
Prof Betsy Donald of Queen’s University, Canada , who will also present a paper titled ‘Food retail and access after the crash’ commented, “It's very easy to write about Neil’s contributions as they have truly been pioneering ”
In response to the release of the news about the sessions, Professor Wrigley said, “I am touched by, and extremely grateful, for the generous words of the contributors s to the AAG sessions. I take them not only as recognition of my personal contributions but also as acknowledgement of Southampton Geography’s world-leading research and policy contributions relating to the geographies of retail and consumption.”
