Giles Scott claims British Sailing's Athlete of the Year prize
Geography alumnus Giles Scott claimed top honours at the British Sailing Team’s annual awards this weekend, winning the Athlete of the Year prize after his unbeaten run in the Finn class this season.
The Olympic Champion and World Sailor of the Year nominee was named as the team’s Olympic Classes Sailor of the Year and the overall Athlete of the Year at a black tie evening held at Portsmouth’s Royal Marines Museum.
During an entirely golden season, Scott claimed his second World Championship title at the ISAF Worlds last month in Santander, and hit winning ways on the 2016 Olympic waters in Rio and at the European Championships in La Rochelle – amassing enough of a lead to win the latter two events a day early.
