In March 2021, the Census was carried out in England and Wales while the COVID-19 pandemic still impacted the population on a day-to-day basis.

This once-in-a-decade survey is an important tool for understanding our communities, while also playing a large role in providing data used to make decisions about how we live our lives.

David Martin, Professor of Geography, recently spoke about his extensive involvement in developing the Census on the University's podcast series, Universi-tea.

Listen to the podcast episode, or read an interview with David about his research experiences, as well as the importance of the Census and how it's used, in this Southampton Spotlight article.
