Geography & Environmental Science Seminar
Abstract: The evidence and our understanding of green/blue space for health have increased hugely in the last 10 or so years, revealing clear opportunities for public health and also addressing multiple 21st century challenges including climate change and biodiversity loss. However, there remain many significant gaps, with limits to our knowledge impacting how effective policy actions can be in gaining environmental and health benefits, and creating potential for unintended consequences. In this talk I will discuss the evidence on green/blue space, health and wellbeing and how a nature based solutions approach can be valuable in connecting these multiple agendas. I will also discuss how the evidence is informing policy, and how actions have the potential to both mitigate and exacerbate health inequalities.
