Hi, I'm Shuang Cao and I studied MSc in GIS and Remote Sensing within Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.

The high quality of education and large quantity of practical experience provide us with support in acquiring related knowledge and improving our practical abilities.

Q: Why did you choose this programme?

Since I wanted to broaden my professional knowledge and improve my skills, an MSc was a good choice for me. The programme at Southampton offers a really great opportunity to enhance the applied skills of both GIS and remote sensing technologies which are useful in industry.

Q: How long did it take you to settle in Southampton?

It took me less than one week to settle in Southampton. The staff here are very helpful and nearly all questions can be solved or answered in the Student Services Department. It is very convenient and easy to settle in at Southampton.

Q: What facilities/ support did you receive?

There are quite a lot of useful facilities here; the free software and computers were very helpful when doing the practicals and coursework. Apart from that, support also came from the library and university; with good access to both related articles and free datasets.

Q: Are there any other points about the programme you would like to highlight?

The applied GIS and remote sensing MSc Programme is a practical and instrumental Masters course for those who are interested in improving their applied skills in both GIS and remote sensing aspects. The high quality of education and large quantity of practical experience provide us with support in acquiring related knowledge and improving our practical abilities. The interesting optional courses deliver a wide range of examples of applying GIS and remote sensing in various study domains, which has broadened my sight and supplied a lot of choices of study domains. I enjoyed my time studying at the University of Southampton with such wonderful literature and classmates!
