PhD research

Title: Development of a UAV based topographic sensor for monitoring dynamic environments.

Supervisors: Dr Julian Leyland, Prof Jim Scanlan

Funding: NEXUSS (NERC)

Summary: High resolution spatial and temporal data is essential to geomorphological understanding, and therefore being able to acquire such data would be of great benefit to research. This project aims to create a small scale UAV  platform that can collect millions of accurate points per flight with an on-board laser scanner and be able to repeat this process when necessary. In conjunction with data from visible and thermal cameras, there is scope to develop a system which responds to the landscape its surveying in real time, to provide more valuable data collection.
