Ms Eliza Garwood is a Postgraduate Research Student within Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.

I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2014 with a BA (Firs Class Hons.) in Sociology and Political Science. I then completed my MRes in Sexuality and Gender studies in 2015 at the same institution before beginning my PhD at the University of Southampton in September 2016.

Research interests

My interests include geographies of sexuality and gender, queer geographies and LGBTQ kinship and intimacy.

At present, my PhD research explores the lives of adults raised by LGBTQ parents. Although children and childhood outcomes have frequently been at the heart of both political debates and academic research into LGBTQ parenting, the voices of those raised by LGBTQ parents have been notably absent. This study will focus on how the beliefs, experiences and performances of these adults are encouraged and/or limited by spatial and temporal contexts. I will use biographic interviews to take a lifecourse perspective, thus allowing questions of past and ongoing lived experience, relationship development, enduring kinship ties and imagined futures.
