Mr Julio Pastor is Postgraduate Research Student within Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.

During his BSc. degree in Marine Biology Julio participated in a research project on ecology and seafloor mapping where he got interest in applied statistics and remote sensing. Throughout his MSc Julio had introductory courses in remote sensing and GIS, there he realized he wanted to pursue postgraduate research in a field where he could learn in depth and apply these tools.

Work experience

Prior to joining the University of Southampton Julio gained experience as Environmental Supervisor in real state property developer companies and later he worked two years for the City Hall in Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. Always wishing to go back to academic life, Julio started a PhD at the University of Southampton in 2012.

Research interests

Julio´s main research interest focuses on mangrove forest phenology using long term Landsat imagery.

  • Factors that drive mangrove phenology.
  • Spatial and temporal analysis.
  • Time series of remote sensing data.

Remote sensing of mangrove forest phenology.
