Kate Goldie is a PhD student in the department of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.

I graduated from the University of Southampton with a BA in Geography in 2017. I then went on to do an MA in Geography at King’s College London, where my dissertation explored connections to nature among zoo visitors. I am particularly interested in human/animal relationships and how these are shaped by social, cultural and political factors.

Research interests

My PhD research explores the performance of care in pet-keeping, particularly focussing on pigs kept for companionship and issues surrounding biosecurity. This provides an interesting case study to examine how attitudes towards, and relationships with, livestock animals may vary in different contexts.
