Research project: Environmental Sensor Networks

Currently Active:
Yes

This is the first Environmental Sensor Network to monitor the subglacial environment. Current research is being undertaken at Skalafellsjokull, Iceland. The aim of this project is understand the relationship between glacier dynamics and climate change

Probes have been emplaced beneath 50 - 80m of ice. These measure temperature, stress, tilt, pressure, and resistivity, and transmit their data by radio to the glacier surface, where the data is transmitted to the web via Glacsweb.
