Research project: Indigenous fruit products and their derivatives: preserving safety and nutritional content

This interdisciplinary research network worked to promote technical innovation and cooperation in the production-to-consumption system of indigenous and underutilised fruits in the Asian region. See for more details.                                                                                                                                    This project was completed in 2013.

Funded by The Leverhulme Trust, UK, this international network brought together partners from the UK, France and Asia, in five research training workshops focusing on Knowledge mapping (Bangladesh), Cold chain technology (India), Biophysical and chemical characterisation of fruit and fruit products (Vietnam), Valorisation of indigenous fruit processing techniques (Cambodia) and Undertaking research with Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (Sri Lanka).

Over its 2-year lifespan, the project built a strong partnership of academic, government and private sector organisations, transferred best practice, exchanged experience and identified key research gaps relating to the safe processing of indigenous fruits which we intend to address through further joint work.
