Becoming an estate agent

As estate agents are primarily sales roles there may be many ways to find a job in this sector, with networking and experience being especially relevant.

Qualifications

  1. A degree is not strictly required, but strong competition can make qualifications an advantage.
  2. Property valuations often necessitate local journeys so a full driving licence is normally required.
  3. Relevant experience is highly important

Work experience

Work with the general public can be beneficial.

Experience in a sales environment is highly relevant and can be more important than qualifications.

Knowledge of the housing market can be important, but will often be overlooked if the candidate has an experienced sales background.

It may be possible to join the company at a lower level and work up through the company to be promoted to estate agents. Positions such as administration roles and secretaries may give you the opportunity to learn and show enthusiasm.
