Exhibition organisers are responsible for overseeing all aspects of an event. This role involves a lot of planning and preparation and a customer focused attitude.
Many exhibition organisers work freelance with a large network of contacts, though employment in large companies and specialist exhibition centres is also possible.
Typical work activities
The sector is expanding and graduate level jobs do now exist, but it is rare to find a graduate scheme for this sort of role. Speculative applications are more likely to be successful when aimed at larger organisations.
Qualifications
A degree is not strictly required but may equip you with some relevant skills and allow you to make more contacts.
Work experience
Experience in IT, languages, sales, marketing and PR are usually beneficial as they relate directly to the role.
Volunteering with events for a student society or charity may be useful in showing commitment whilst gaining experience of events management.
Work experience that allows you to gain contacts in the industry would be hugely beneficial as events and exhibition management is a lot about who you know.
