Expedition leader

Expedition leaders have opportunities to travel worldwide, often in developing nations, while responsible for groups. They take people to new places so expeditions are often unpredictable and full of change.

Expeditions may involve trekking, cultural adventure and community project work.

Typical work activities

 

Required qualifications

  1. A degree in any subject
  2. Mountain leader (or equivalent) award
  3. Valid remote first aid certificate

Work experience

Experience of independent international travel is often vital.

Experience of working with young people is useful, particularly the age range of the expedition group you are applying to.

Experience of managing risk in the outdoors is very important as safety on expeditions is a concern of most parents and facilitators.
