Induction

We organise a series of induction events at the start of the academic year to help students familiarise themselves with Geography and Environmental Science and settle in.

Induction group exercise

These include a variety of activities ranging from introductory talks to tours of the Hartley Library: group exercises to meeting your personal tutor followed by lunch as well as independent learning activities.

Meeting staff and students

Induction events also include a social side, making them an excellent opportunity to meet staff and fellow students.
You will be welcomed by the student-led GeogSoc (Geographical Society), who organise a range of activities through the year.
There will also be plenty of things to do outside of Geography in your first week, such as welcome events organised by your halls of residence.

Other campus amenities

Specialist staff will introduce you to the library and IT services, and you can choose to have induction to the gym and other sports facilities.

Freshers’ Week

The Southampton University Students' Union (SUSU) hosts Freshers’ Week at the start of each academic year. This is a chance to find out about the University's various clubs and societies, and well as to enjoy a range of entertainment.
