Your application

If you are eligible to attend our December ceremonies, we will contact you with details on how to apply for your place by the end of September. If you are eligible to attend our July ceremonies, we will contact you with details by the end of March.

This would be a good time for you to update your graduation-specific email address; please log on to SUSSED and select 'My Student Record (Banner Self Service)’. If you no longer have access to your student account, please contact with your preferred email address.

You must apply to attend your ceremony even if you haven’t yet completed your studies. If you don’t apply, a space won’t be reserved for you.

Once you’ve received our email you will be able to reserve your ticket and up to two guest tickets. Make sure you receive a confirmation email – sent to the email address with which you opened your account – and check it carefully. If you do not receive this confirmation, your booking may still be pending and your place will not be secure.

Guest tickets

You will be able to choose up to two guest tickets when you apply. These are free of charge if you apply within the application deadline.

Additional guest tickets

We can sometimes release additional guest tickets if your ceremony has spaces once applications have closed. We will email everyone who has applied for a graduation place to advise whether extra tickets are available for the ceremony or not.

We may be able to offer standby tickets on the day of your ceremony. To add your name to the waitlist for these tickets, please find the Deputy Halls Manager (purple robe) in the venue foyer no earlier than 45 minutes before your ceremony start time. Please be aware that any standby tickets may not be seated with the ticketed guests and are not available for children under 6 years old.

Extra guests and standby tickets are £10 each. 

Even if there are no spaces in the ceremony, please invite as many family and friends as you wish to share in your special day. There are plenty of viewing areas with live ceremony streaming which do not require an entrance ticket. This is available in the foyer of either venue and in various locations across campus.

Can’t attend a ceremony this year?

You may wish to attend a ceremony in the future (‘defer’), rather than attend in the year you finish your studies. If you wish to defer to a future ceremony rather than the one you’ve been invited to, we ask you to please select the defer option in your online application. You’ll then receive a deferral confirmation email which gives you all the information you’ll need to apply for a future ceremony.

Note that not all programmes are eligible for both winter and summer ceremonies, it may be one or the other. If you defer, you should expect that you will need to wait until the following year to attend a ceremony. Please check when your faculty and programme is eligible to attend graduation.
