Official photography

Before you leave, make sure you get your photographs! Photography in the summer is located in building 42, Student Union on level 2, The Cube. For Winter it is in building 38, The Hartley Suite. There is no need to book a slot, you will just need to queue on the day. It’s available throughout the day so be sure you leave enough time to get to your ceremony, faculty reception or return your robe.

Get social

The University’s Student Communications Team will be capturing the day across our social media channels. The team will be in blue t-shirts so please make yourself known to them if you would not like to be photographed or videoed. Media may appear on the University of Southampton – Student Communications Facebook page or any other university social media channels.  Follow the University’s Snapchat account at: unisouthampton, to see all the latest photos and videos live from graduation. There is also a custom graduation geofilter created just for you, so get snapping!

Share your graduation story using the official hashtag: #UoSgraduation

And above all – enjoy it. This is your day to celebrate a fantastic achievement with your family and friends.

Faculty reception

In general, faculty receptions follow the graduation ceremony and include light refreshments.

These are arranged by your faculty, they will usually email you seperately with guidance on these events. If you have any queries about the reception, please contact your faculty student office.

Please check carefully the timing of your reception to ensure you do not miss out when planning your day.

Dietary requirements

Every effort is made to supply suitable catering for you and your guests. If you need to make special dietary arrangements, please contact your student office on receipt of your reception invitation.

Facilities for children (Highfield Campus)

To preserve the ceremonial atmosphere, we regret that we are unable to admit babies and children 6 years old and under to the ceremonial halls. Children over 6 can be admitted provided they have their own ticket. Children of any age are not permitted to sit on laps of other guests in the ceremonial hall.

For those children who cannot attend a ceremony, we can offer:

Family Marquee: for children escorted by a responsible parent/guardian - live streaming of ceremonies, buggy parking, children’s area with colouring-in materials and CBeebies showing on a separate TV. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Nursery: the OFSTED-regulated Early Years Centre is on the Highfield campus – you must book in advance. See the Early Years Centre website or email them on eycentre@southampton.ac.uk.

Extra assistance

If you or your guests need any form of extra help or support, please select the ‘additional requirements’ tick box on your application or contact us on gradar@southampton.ac.uk. We’ll do all we can to help your day run as smoothly as possible, but please give us plenty of notice to do so.

If you or your guests are a wheelchair user, please ensure you provide this information during the application process so we can provide the most suitable options and arrangements for your day. Wheelchair spaces are limited inside the venues, however, we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Hearing loops are available in both venues.

Please be aware both venues have theatre style seating on an incline with steps to navigate. There are limited seats available with few steps, please contact us as soon as possible if you require specific seating and we will endeavour to find a suitable seat for you.

Visas

We can supply a letter to support a visa application for you and your guests. You will need to select this option in your online application.

A PDF attachment of the visa letter will be emailed to you 10 working days after your confirmed booking has been received.

The letter will be addressed to you and can be used to support your and/or your guests visa applications. For any queries please email gradvisa@soton.ac.uk.
