HEAL member speaks at International Conference on Scientific Freedom

Dr John Coggon, Reader in Law in the Law School, and member of the Health, Ethics and Law research centre, has been invited to speak at World Congress for Freedom of Scientific Research, which takes place in Rome From Friday 4th to Sunday 6th April. He is giving a talk with the title “The Ethics of Science and the Art of Politics: Bridging Gaps, and Protecting Science”.
The high profile event opens with welcomes from senior politicians, and has a programme that includes important figures from politics, science, law, and academia. The Congress aims to provoke reflection on the idea, as expressed by organiser and former Member of European Parliament, Marco Cappato, that the scientific method is a fundamental tool for the life of the democratic method.
This will be the third such Congress. Following the first, Dr Coggon, along with Marco Cappato and Dr Simona Giordano, published the edited collection “Scientific Freedom” (Bloomsbury: London, 2012).
