International Research Visit by HEAL Academic
Professor John Coggon , a member of the Health, Ethics and Law (HEAL) group in Southampton Law School, is currently on a research visit to McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. He is being hosted by colleagues at the Institute for Health and Social Policy (IHSP).
As well as delivering a lecture based on the research that he has been conducting on ‘long game healthism ’, John is advancing various projects concerning public health ethics and law. One of these, with Jurgen de Wispelaere and Nick King , is advancing the exploration of public health policy through the lens of republican theory. This follows the “Republic of Health ” conference, held in Southampton in May and run as a joint initiative between HEAL and IHSP.
They will also be discussing further initiatives, which will focus on some of the most compelling public health challenges, such as the regulation of tobacco. The collaborations allow international perspectives and insights to be brought within a strong, interdisciplinary approach.
