Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused particular difficulties for prisons and other sites of detention, due to the severe risks and acute stress it caused for prisoners and other detainees, as well as their families, staff and others required to interact with sites of detention. This informal roundtable organised by Southampton Law School provides an opportunity to discuss experiences, concerns and lessons to draw from the pandemic. It will facilitate discussion between practitioners and scholars focused on different sites of detention – including prisons, hospitals and care homes, and secure hospitals – and consider ways forward.
