Dr Christine Lopes is Clinical Lecturer within Health Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I am interested in conceptual and clinical aspects of in-patient dementia care, especially where this depends on the psychological health of general nurses and ward managers.

I am a Doctor of Philosophy and a Registered Mental Health Nurse.

I hold a joint appointment with Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, Queen Alexandra Hospital, Medicine for Older People, Rehabilitation, and Stroke (MOPRS) and Health Sciences at the University of Southampton.

My previous clinical post was at a forensic psychiatric hospital. I am committed to academic and clinical work on mental health, in general, and on the emotional wellbeing of nurses and ward managers, in particular. The latter is being developed with Dr Jackie Bridges and Dr Chris McLean.

As a philosopher, my interests are in ethics and applied ethics, phenomenology, philosophy of psychiatry, psychopathology, and in the critique of theories of mind that rely on the concept of rationality.  As a registered mental health nurse, my interests are in the psychology and phenomenology of mental health disorders, and their impact on nursing in general.
