Emeritus Professor of Nursing
Emeritus Professor Dame Jill Macleod Clark is an Emeritus Professor within Health Sciences, University of Southampton. Her research interests focus around evidence based nursing interventions, and the promotion of health, choice and quality of life for individuals coping with enduring illness or who are at the end of life. She is campaigning at a national and local policy level for the development of embedded clinical academic career pathways for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. Dame Jill is a Trustee of a number of charities which help people with enduring health challenges or disabilities to become actively involved in sailing.

Dame Jill has a background in clinical and academic nursing. She trained at University College Hospital and worked for many years in a range of nursing roles in the acute and community sector. She studied at the London School of Economics and her doctorate focussed on nurse-patient communication. Jill has held a number of professional leadership and advisory roles in the UK and overseas. These include heading up one of the largest Health Sciences Faculties in the UK, acting as Chair of the UK Council of Deans of Health and spearheading a non-medical clinical academic career development strategy. She was a member of the UK Research Excellence Framework Panel for Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Professions in 2008 & 2014. Jill is contributing to key policy initiatives linked to modernising nursing and non-medical careers, health care workforce reform and building healthcare leadership capacity in under-represented areas. She Chairs the NIHR non-medical Clinical Academic Careers awards panel, is a member of ‘Women on Boards' and is actively engaged in coaching and mentoring senior health professionals aspiring to executive or strategic leadership role
