Mrs Rachael Crocker RM, MSc, BMid (Hons), PGCAP, FHEA
Senior Teaching Fellow - Midwifery

Rachael Crocker is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Midwifery, working within a small team to provide undergraduate midwifery education within the School of Health Sciences. Rachael joined the University of Southampton in 2018 as a Clinical Teaching Fellow and secured a substantive post as Senior Teaching Fellow in June 2021.
Prior to working at the University of Southampton, my clinical background has always focused around ‘high-risk’ midwifery or those with additional care needs. With 10 years experience of working in a busy tertiary unit, I gained valuable experiences and knowledge which I disseminate to the students.
I was also a Practice Education Midwife in charge of the preceptorship programme, therefore I have a particular interest in the transition from student midwife to preceptor. More specifically why some skills and training aren’t taught until after qualification and whether these can be included within our current programme.
Having completed my undergraduate Midwifery degree and my Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Southampton, I have a strong appreciation of the demands completing a midwifery degree requires and understand the absolute need for effective pastoral support.
Whilst I am relatively new to academia, I have had a varied professional career and I am hoping to commence a Doctorate in the near future.
