Professor Sara Demain PhD

Professor Sara Demain's photo

Professor Sara Demain is currently the Head of School of Heath Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Sara is an academic physiotherapist who specialises in neurological rehabilitation and self-management. Her research focusses on how health services and professionals can best engage people in their rehabilitation, helping people to develop the skills and confidence to manage their health.  She is interested in developing treatments and services that are easy for people to engage with and cause minimal disruption to their lives.  This includes how technology such as apps, games and robots be improved for better user experiences and rehabilitation outcomes.

Sara first joined the University of Southampton as a lecturer in 2001 and has held two NIHR fellowships (doctoral and post-doctoral) whilst in post. Sara took on the role of Director Faculty Graduate School in 2016 and Head of Division of AHP in 2017. From 2018 - 2021 Sara was Head of School of Health Professions at the University of Plymouth, before returning to Southampton to take up her current post.
