Cardiac Physiology (Healthcare Science)

The selection days for Cardiac Physiology are held to give you the opportunity to learn more about the University, the programme and meet current students already studying on the course. Every shortlisted applicant will be invited to attend and the day will conclude with a tour of the facilities at Southampton General Hospital.

We appreciate that you may feel anxious about attending the selection day; we do however see it as an important stage in your application, not only to help us to make our decisions but also as an opportunity for you to find out the information you need to be able to make informed decisions about your future career. During the day there will be plenty of opportunity to talk to and ask questions of academic staff and current students to find out all you want to know about us, our programmes and student life. Do feel comfortable to ask any questions about the programme, campus, accommodation, or finances and we will ensure that we answer all questions, fully and honestly.

Where to go and how to find us

Cardiac Physiology selection sessions will all take place at South Academic Block, Southampton General Hospital, details of how to travel to the hospital and a map can be found here: https://www.southampton.ac.uk/visitus/campuses/southampton_general_hospital.html

Extra detail on local buses can be found on the First Group website

To attend for selection please come to Health Sciences Reception, Level A, South Academic Block, Southampton General Hospital. Reception is not well sign posted but it is directly opposite the entrance to the main library and hence it is suggested that you make for that.

To get to the main library go through the main Hospital entrance, walk past the shops and turn right in front of Marks and Spencer CAFÉ. Continue past the lifts and take the next left. Walk down the long corridor which will take you into South Academic Block. Eventually you will reach a lift and stairs on your right. Descend two flights to A level and continue along the corridor in the same direction as before. You will find the library entrance on the left and Health Sciences reception on the right. Please take a seat in reception, someone will collect you at the pre-arranged time.

What to expect

You will be given a location and a time to attend the selection day and normally this will commence with the Admissions team checking your documents that you have been asked to bring along with you. After this, there will be a presentation by members of the Healthcare Science team which will give more detailed information about the University and the programme. Staff will also be able to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. If your questions are more about student life current students will be on hand during the whole event to answer any questions that you have. Following this you will then be asked to take part in an interview and group activity this is an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding and insight into the profession and healthcare. Please allow up to 6 hours for the selection day.
