Success for Health Sciences’ graduates

Published: 21 December 2011

Congratulations to all Health Sciences students who graduated last week. Over 800 graduates from across the University attended Winter Graduation ceremonies held at the Turner Sims last Monday and Tuesday.

Achievements included diplomas, post-graduate diplomas, foundation and bachelor degrees, masters and doctorates.

We were delighted to learn that all the graduates who spoke to our marketing team were already working in practice and many are choosing to further their studies here.

The graduation ceremonies are a highlight of the academic year for Health Sciences staff who enjoy sharing in the excitement of the occasion. Emotions amongst graduates were a mix of delight in achieving their success but also sadness at saying goodbye to friends made along with way.

Our graduates join the growing alumni community of tens of thousands of Southampton graduates across the world. We wish them all a hugely successful future.

Emma Richards, a Bachelor of Nursing graduate, said “I’ve really enjoyed my time here. It’s been hard work and tough at times but I’ve met some great people and the staff were fantastic.

“Studying here has given me a different perspective on life. Nursing is not a job that can be done half-heartedly – you really need to want to do it. I’m lucky to have found what I want to do and been supported along the way to achieve my dream of becoming a qualified nurse.”

Boonthan Kingsaiyhod, a graduate currently studying for an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, said “I would definitely encourage my friends to study here because of the support that’s offered to international students. After finishing my studies I plan to become a lecturer in my own country, Thailand.”

Greg Walters, a Diploma in Nursing graduate, said “I’ve just secured my dream job at Oxford Radcliffe ITU and I’m really looking forward to moving up there.

“There were occasions when the course was really hard going but there has always been someone to help me through it and I’m so glad I chose to study here.”
