The Faculty is celebrating 20 years development of the first Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) programme in the UK. Anne Baileff, Health Sciences' non-medical prescribing lead, is published in this week's Nursing Standard following her presentation at the advanced nursing practice conference hosted by the RCN and the International Council of Nurses in London last week. Anne was at the conference to present her research into gaps in independent prescribing and made the comment that the nursing profession should consider introducing a more rigorous candidate selection process for staff embarking on independent prescribing programmes.

Congratulations to our member of staff and PhD student, Elsa Montgomery, who recently won first prize for her poster ‘Voicing the Silence: the maternity care experiences of women who were sexually abused in childhood' presented at the symposium on 'Opportunities and challenges of Feminist Narrative Research' held at Huddersfield University.

Professor Ann Ashburn, Ruth Pickering, Rose Wiles, Helen Roberts and Lisa Roberts have successfully secured funding from the NIHR, RfPB (Research for Patient Benefit) to explore the effects of ballroom dancing on people with Parkinson's disease.

This two year study is based in the Faculty of Health Sciences and linked to the DM Dance Centre in Highfield.
