Congratulations to Dr Jacqui Prieto and Dr Lisa Roberts who have been awarded HEFCE senior clinical lectureships. The awards support six researchers across the fields of nursing, allied health and healthcare science for a period of five years and are the highest level of the Clinical Academic Training Programme for individuals committed to developing a career combining research and clinical practice.

Age UK Southampton has published a great review of the ‘Connecting with Old Age' conference including a poem from student nurse Julie Sibley. The conference was co-organised by Health Sciences to raise awareness to students' of the issues and difficulties that older people face.

The Wessex Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) has been offered a licence and core funding by NHS England.  The Faculty will also host a new ‘Centre for Implementation Science' as part of the AHSN and will continue to have a central role in its development.

This initiative has also enabled the Faculty to develop a programme for submission to the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) for a ‘Wessex Collaboration in Applied Health Research and Care' (CLAHRC). Continue reading here.

Congratulations to deputy programme leader BN (Hons), Peta Reid, who has had her Foundation Health Sciences module shortlisted in the excellent Blackboard sites competition run by CITE. The competition was particularly stiff with over 4000 courses eligible for entry and 100 nominations received.  Peta's module is one of nine shortlisted.

Dr Lisa Roberts gave an international webinar to physiotherapists in Canada entitled: ‘Are you delivering a quality service? Prove it!' The opportunity arose following the publication of Lisa's recent paper in Manual Therapy on improving quality, service delivery and patient experience in a musculoskeletal service.

Dr Claire Foster attended the Breast Cancer Campaign annual ‘thank you' reception at the House of Lords as a guest earlier this month.  The event recognised research successes and the fundraising efforts of the charity's supporters who help raise the money needed to support researchers.  Photos from the night can be seen here.
