News roundup

Published: 2 May 2013

A summary of the latest news and intelligence from around the Faculty.

Health Sciences was well represented at all levels at last week's British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and British Health Professionals in Rheumatology (BHPR) annual conference held in Birmingham.

Our academics presented many posters, chaired meetings, ran workshops and held special interest groups.  Much networking was also undertaken and feedback from our PhD students that attended was incredibly positive.

The next meeting of the The Higher Education Academy Lived Experience Network will be hosted by Health Sciences on Tuesday, 7th May.  The purpose of the group is to showcase good practice and help improve service user and carer involvement within healthcare education.

The Faculty will be making a number of presentations, including one on the Human Library, and Trevor Kettle will be talking about our research. All Higher Education healthcare educators are welcome.  To register contact

Photos have been posted to Flickr from last night's Student Nursing Times Awards where we had three finalists attending.  As sponsors of the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Practice Placement' category, Paula Libberton, Joint Faculty Lead for Practice Learning - Nursing and Midwifery, is pictured here presenting the award.

Following last week's news, congratulations also go to Bachelor of Nursing Mental Health student, Bekie Clark, who has been awarded 'Outstanding Commitment to Study' by LASER Learning Awards and Access to Higher Education.  This is a great achievement and a real success.

Dr Lesley Collier and her research work with dementia patients in multi-sensory environments is to feature in the next issue of New Boundaries.  Watch out for the June issue coming soon!
