Happy New Year! Here’s the first summary of the latest news and intelligence from around the Faculty in 2014.

Following news that Professor Peter Griffiths and his team won an open tender from the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to support the development of guidelines on safe staffing, the story has been widely publicised in the media including the Nursing Times, Daily Echo, HSJ and ITV Meridian.

Cavell Nurses' Trust Community Award winner, Caroline Edmunds, has been featured in the Hampshire Chronicle as one of our adult and mental health nursing students who travelled to Ghana as part of a volunteer fundraising mission with the charity AMECA.

The second Worldwide University Network (WUN) International Health Literacy conference took place in November 2013 at the University of Sydney where Dr Jo Adams jointly chaired the conference scientific committee.
These international conferences were funded by a £43k award from WUN to bring together international researchers to share outputs and work together to identify key areas to develop international collaborative research bids.

A new book for undergraduate student nurses published this week jointly edited by Sheila Reading with contributory chapters by Faculty staff including: Mary-Jane Baker; Jackie Bridges; Chris Mclean; Ellie Monger; Yvonne Middlewick; Mark Rawlinson; Beth Sepion; Cathy Sullivan and Kay Townsend.

Achieving Competencies for Nursing Practice is published by the Open University Press and available to purchase.
