Health Sciences news roundup on 13th March 2014

Published: 13 March 2014

A summary of the latest news and intelligence from around the Faculty.

Co-applicant Jane Burridge along with Maria Stokes and Joy Conway have won a £500,000 MULSER (Multi-User Large Scale Equipment for Research) contribution towards the purchase of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanner in partnership with the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation. MULSER approved the purchase as it will strengthen the University's research imaging capability and directly benefit its research agenda.

The bid was jointly made by six Faculties and the Institute of Life Sciences, and led by Professor Colin Kennedy from the Faculty of Medicine.

The Faculty's new undergraduate prospectus is now available for the next recruitment drive and will be added to the website soon.  Pick up a printed copy or view it as a page-turner here

Six of our occupational therapy students: Jess, Hannah, Donna, Harriet, Maggie and Alex, have been thanked in Southampton Sight's Spring newsletter for their voluntary work and fundraising efforts for the charity. The students helped members bake cupcakes and truffles, and raised over £500 at a bake sale.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the NIHR CLAHRC Wessex launch which took place yesterday.  Dean of the Faculty, Jessica Corner, introduced this first networking event and a guest presentation was made by Fiona Dalton, CEO of University Hospital Southampton.  The CLAHRC's six themes were introduced by each of the theme leads and were followed by the opportunity to network.
