Dr Mary Gobbi will be taking part in the Victoria Derbyshire Live Debate on Monday 27th April 2015 at Southampton’s Grand Harbour Hotel. The subject will be the NHS, and the debate will be aired live on BBC Two, BBC News Channel and BBC online. The debate begins at 9.15am.

Congratulations to Dr Anne-Sophie Darlington who has been awarded funding from the Worldwide Universities Network Researcher Mobility Programme to visit Professor Sally Norton at the School of Nursing at the University of Rochester in the US. The aim of the three week research visit is to foster collaboration, and develop research focused on identifying coping strategies of parents of a child with a life-limiting illness during the palliative phase.

Congratulations to Kay Townsend from the End of Live and Palliative Care module team who won one of three ILIaD ‘excellence in Blackboard awards’ for her site. A transcript of the awards and presentation can be viewed here. It’s fantastic for the team to receive student endorsement for all the thoughtful effort that has been put into this module. Among other things, the site was praised for its sense of an inclusive community generated online.

Tomorrow, Friday 24th April, biomechanist Dr Cheryl Metcalf will be talking at the Nuffield Theatre as part of the Fulcrum Festival 2015. Cheryl will be joined by Puppeteer Claire Harvey and musician Matthew Scott, who will be unlocking the secrets of the hand. The talk takes place at 4.30pm and tickets can be booked here.

The 7th Edition of the classic research text, The Research Process in Nursing, has just been published. Judith Lathlean is the co-editor and she, along with other members of the Faculty including Katherine Hunt, Jo Turnbull and Peter Griffiths, have contributed chapters. Congratulations to Jo and Katherine for whom it is their first contributed chapters.

Postgraduate research student for CLAHRC Wessex, Chiara Dall’Ora, spoke at the recent Unison healthcare conference in Liverpool discussing results from a study on nurses shift work. Chiara’s comments have been published in the Nursing Times online.

Last week, the team who evaluated the 2011 all-graduate programme in nursing (GNEP), are launching a survey for all academics who have taught on the BN programme since October 2011. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much you have taught, supervised, assessed or supported the students, your observations and comments are welcomed! Please help the Faculty evaluate the ‘first’ programme by completing the survey which should take between 10-25 minutes.
