Dr Mary Gobbi and two Health Sciences nursing students took part in the Victoria Derbyshire Live Debate on the NHS on Monday at Southampton’s Grand Harbour Hotel. The debate was aired live on BBC Two, BBC News Channel and BBC online. All three Health Sciences attendees spoke up during the programme.

Congratulations to Dr Debbie Thackray who has been appointed as a National Representative for the AHP’s with the Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) to act as a focal point on behalf of the Association for the local simulation community and help disseminate news and information from ASPiH to colleagues, and feedback local developments and innovations worthy of national dissemination. Debbie will be working in conjunction with two regional representatives.

Further congratulations go to Dr Debbie Thackray who has also been awarded Higher Education Innovation funding to take forward the development of setting up and using simulation for on call training in collaboration with physiotherapy respiratory clinicians at the Winchester Royal County Hospital and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

Dr Debbi Thackray will also be joining Professor Jane Burridge, Dr Lisa Roberts, Dr Anne Marie Hughes and SUHT colleagues attending the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) Congress 2015 in Singapore in May 1-4th. Debbie will be presenting a poster and giving a platform presentation on her doctoral research. Jane is a guest speaker at a focused symposium on making the most of new technologies for stroke rehabilitation.

Congratulations to Health Sciences staff member Rob Agar who, along with two colleagues, took part in the Southampton half marathon, to raise money for the Centre for Cancer Immunology. The trio raised £651 for the campaign between them.

The Faculty is delighted to welcome Dr Susie Weller, Qualitative Research Fellow, who joins the Hip 'op team and will be working with Dr Lisa Roberts on a nine year trial investigating the timing of surgery for children with developmental dysphasia of the hip.

Susie was formerly a Reader at London South Bank University and has extensive qualitative experience and a growing international reputation for youth and family research. Alongside her role in the Faculty, she also has a new post at the National Centre for Research Methods in the University.

Academics and professionals are invited to ‘From health to Wellth: rethinking health models to invigorate innovation discovery and quality of life’ event on 27th May from 12:00-15:00 in B34/3001. This free event will be an opportunity to network, share research and discuss ways to drive the funding agenda in this area.
