Event details

The event is open to all FOHS students, from 1st to final year pre-registration, post graduate diploma and masters students of all disciplines.

In the past this event has been restricted to final year students only. However from the very positive response to the postponed Agency Fair scheduled for December, we recognise that there is a very significant level of interest amongst Years 1 and 2 students for early careers advice and the opportunity for agency work.

Final year students are invited to attend from 10 a.m. to 3p.m.

All non-final year undergraduates (all disciplines) will be invited to attend from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This time slot is to allow us to safely manage the footfall through the exhibition hall. Queues are always very high in the early part of the event and we must give priority early access to final year students. These students are in the process of applying for newly qualified posts and they need time to speak with prospective employers. I trust you will appreciate the rationale for this; by staging timings we can ensure that everyone can comfortably move around the exhibition and have quality conversations with exhibitors.

The Eventbrite registration system will ask you to indicate whether you are a final year student or a non-final year student. If you do not wish to attend, you do not have to do anything.

All final year programme leads of all the disciplines have been consulted about the timing of this event and support your attendance. We recognise that there will be some students in placement; this is unavoidable due to the complex nature of multiple timetables. Students in placement on Monday 11 March must negotiate attendance with their placements. We cannot sign off hours against this, so any hours taken out of placement hours must be made up. Early careers advice can help you make important decisions about where you may wish to work and what type of employment is on offer. I would encourage you to consider this valuable opportunity to start planning and to increase your awareness of the different opportunities that are emerging as services develop, both within the NHS, independent, voluntary and charitable sectors. Some exhibitors will also be providing information about potential overseas experiences suitable for Gap Year and short independent placements i.e. PDE.

Tips for getting the most out of the day:

Do remember that first impressions count so dress smartly to create a professional appearance.

Do update your CV with relevant skills and experience and take along copies for employers and agencies, who may also ask you to complete an application form on the day.

Registration and free prize draw:

If you would like to attend please register at http://hscareersfair.eventbrite.co.uk/ where you can also enter the free prize draw* for the chance to win one of two prizes - a signed copy of Alan Glasper's new book, co-authored with Colin Rees, "How to Write Your Nursing Dissertation" or a book token.

*The winners will be drawn from a hat at the Careers Fair.
