Event details

As part of the University's Distinguished Lecture series Dr Doris Howell, Senior Scientist, Ontario Cancer Institute (OCI), will be delivering a lecture at 4pm on Wednesday 4 December in Building 67, Lecture Theatre 1027.

The topic of the talk will be Tailoring Chronic Disease Self-Management to Cancer: Results of a Mixed-Method Study and Road Map for Change

Dr Doris Howell trained as a health services researcher and is also focused on clinical intervention research. The goal of her research programme is to improve the patient's experience of cancer care, through health intervention research focused on better care delivery systems and clinical interventions for complex symptoms (fatigue, breathlessness, pain). Her main focus of intervention research is on understanding how psychological factors such as beliefs influence symptom response and adaptation to illness and how these might be modified through behavioural self-management interventions. Additionally, the efficacy and effectiveness of nurse-led behavioural self-management interventions in reducing symptom distress is a clinical research focus.
