Florence Nightingale Student Day

Midwifery student, Jess Docking, summerises her experience in early May of attending the Florence Nightingale Student Day. Jess joined PG Dip mental health nursing student, Faye Powell, and nursing student, Annette Welch, who were invited to attend on behalf of the Faculty.

“I feel honoured and privileged to have had the opportunity to attend the Florence Nightingale student conference. On arrival I had very little knowledge of the history of Florence Nightingale and her influence on today’s modern nurse/midwife.

“The day really inspired me and I felt so proud, hearing from all the speakers on the panel of the Nightingale Foundation was inspirational. As students I think the day was invaluable, being able to speak to other peers and gain insight into their training and really have our say as students.

“The afternoon was the most memorable part of the day, being able to be part of the commemoration service at Westminster Abbey was just fascinating!

“I felt so lucky to be part of the day and left feeling really proud of the profession we are a part of. I think the awareness needs to be raised about this day, not only in supporting the Florence Nightingale Foundation, but also to allow for other students to be a part of this wonderful experience.”
