Internationalism. A message from Doctor Steve Tee, Head of Centre for Innovation and Leadership in Health Sciences

A key objective for the coming year is to further develop our internationalisation strategy. We want to attract more international students to the Faculty, widen the scope of exchange schemes, for staff and students, and further develop collaborations with International partners.

We have now established an International Steering Group with representation from academic and administration staff within the Faculty and from the International office of the University. The aim of the group is to gather market intelligence, determine current and active relationships and identify and support potential opportunities.

We are already actively pursuing some useful links in the Middle East, India, China, North America and Australia, and anticipate that these will result in positive outcomes for the Faculty. We also have a very active international student forum from which we gain direct feedback on students' experience of the Faculty.

An important element of this strategy is to ensure the learning environment is receptive and welcoming to international students. This will require on-going review of our current processes around the international student journey, including responding to the IBarometer survey of the international student experience, and the preparation and development of staff.

With this in mind we are pleased to announce that we have recently appointed Steve Ryall to the role of lead for Internationalism to work across both academic units, in order to help us develop and push forward our work in this area. We propose to use some of the time during a forthcoming staff development week to put on sessions on internationalism. A programme of activity will be communicated in due course.

Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the Faculty's developing international agenda or have any helpful suggestions please contact Steve Tee
