SHA Communications Event

A SHA event took place earlier in January to show case the communication skills development that Kay Townsend, Lucy Smith and James Wilson have led over the last three months.

The team outlined the resources they have developed and piloted training programme, teaching plan, a guide to available resources and presentation slides) for both a programme in foundation communication skills training and in communication relating to advanced care planning. Impressively this work has been completed in a very tight time frame, has been undertaken collaboratively with clinicians and has included piloting with a range of audiences. The training packages were enthusiastically received and well evaluated, with suggestions for roll out across NHS South SHA.

In addition the team co-designed, led and participated in a session designed to enable the practice educators and communication skills trainers, who were attending the event, to manage difficult group behaviours. They came across as professional, knowledgeable and approachable and generated very positive evaluations.

Doctor Sue Colley comments “The quality of the work that these three members of staff demonstrated was outstanding. I was very proud to witness this work and to see the Faculty presented in such a brilliant light.”
