The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and British Health Professionals in Rheumatology (BHPR) annual conference

Write up from The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and British Health Professionals in Rheumatology (BHPR) annual conference by Cathy Bowen and Jo Adams

This conference is a fabulous opportunity for the rheumatology community to meet. With 2000 delegates the conference programme covered the broad spectrum of rheumatology and was as packed as ever with various symposia, peer-reviewed oral presentations, workshops, specialist interest groups, regular poster sessions with poster tours and an extensive trade exhibition.

Amongst all the events we also made use of the time for collaborative research strategy meetings and networking.  As such our days often ran from 7am to 8pm. A keen favourite is the annual Heberden Round and Heberden Oration and the Droitwich lecture in which three rheumatologists/rheumatology clinicians are rewarded for their contribution to, and impact on, management of rheumatologic disease. There are no spare seats in the auditorium and the presentations that they give focus on their lifetime clinical and research work.

Through our engagement with the rheumatology community the Faculty of Health Sciences is well represented at all levels and our research from staff and pre-registration and post graduate students is well respected nationally.

Our contributions:

The work that Jo Adams has conducted with colleagues at Warwick University on the NIHR SARAH randomised controlled trial was chosen as the allied health "Jewel in the Crown" oral presentation.

Amongst all of this some of our PhD also students attended and afterwards said how 'amazed' they were by the scale of the conference and our level of input.
