- Huge congratulations to the Faculty's Palliative Care Education Team who have won first prize in the International Journal of Palliative Care Awards 2014 ‘Educator of the Year' category.
- BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science has been recognised by The Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) and National Academy of Healthcare Science (NAHCS) giving graduates the right to register as qualified healthcare scientists.
- Congratulations to Wendy Turton who presented a poster of her ongoing clinical research into the Lived Experience of Psychosis at the XVIII Curso Annual de Esquiofrenia in Madrid last December.
- Congratulations to Mrs Jessica Comper and Dr Catherine Pope who were given awards from the VC's office in recognition of their work on the Faculty's REF2014 submission.
- James Wilson received great feedback and interest following his presentation of the Faculty's work using forum theatre and other interactive theatre-based methods to the Council of Deans ‘Educating for excellent care: Innovation teaching and learning' seminar last week.
- Two of our student nurses were shortlisted for a prestigious national award. Alex Collyer has since been awarded ‘runner up' in the Edith Cavell Leadership award.
- Congratulations to student Dave Progl who was part of a team of students from the South West and Wales region that won the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's Dragon's Den style Big Idea competition.
- Congratulations to Rokhsaneh Tehrany, who was judged the winner in the Health Sciences heat of yesterday's 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) event. Rokhsaneh presented her work observing how breathing patterns change over time in health and disease. Rokhsaneh will represent Health Sciences in the University's 3MT final in May.
- Sophia Hulbert, presenting on the effects of ballroom dancing on the activity of turning for people with Parkinson's disease, was voted the People's Choice at the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) event.
- Congratulations to our education team shortlisted for the International Journal of Palliative Nursing ‘Educator of the Year Award' for its work with practitioners in end of life care and palliative care education work within the Faculty. The winner will be announced at a ceremony later in March.
- Congratulations to child nursing student Natalie Brown who has been shortlisted in the 2014 Student Nursing Times awards for the 'Student Nurse of the Year: Children' category. We wish Natalie the best of luck for the final in May.
- Great news from Jane Burridge along with Maria Stokes and Joy Conway who have won a £500,000 MULSER (Multi-User Large Scale Equipment for Research) contribution towards the purchase of a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanner in partnership with the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation. MULSER approved the purchase as it will strengthen the University's research imaging capability and directly benefit its research agenda.
The bid was jointly made by six Faculties, and led by Professor Colin Kennedy from the Faculty of Medicine, and the Institute of Life Sciences.
- Congratulations to three of our academics who passed their EdD vivas with amendments:
- Debbie Thackray passed her EdD viva with minor amendments . The title of her thesis is ‘An investigation into the clinical reasoning of cardiorespiratory physiotherapists using a simulated patient and simulated high dependency unit.'
- Steve Ryall passed his EdD viva with modest amendments. The title of his thesis is ‘Staff's conceptions and experiences of internationalisation and the implications for its delivery in Higher Education'.
- Stephanie Meakin successfully defended her thesis and was awarded her EdD with minor amendments. The title of Stephanie's thesis is ‘Exploring the potential of the pre-registration programme for developing student nurses as future clinical leaders in contemporary healthcare.'
