NIHR CLAHRC Wessex

It’s almost one year into the NIHR CLAHRC Wessex Research and Implementation Programme and there’s lots to update on.

We have now recruited to all the positions within the Methodology Hub.  This team is led by Dr Tom Monks, an Operational Researcher, who, in addition to working with the six Themes within the CLAHRC, will be shortly canvasing our partner organisations in a focus call around system modelling.  Tom is also supported by another Operational Researcher, Health Economist, Statistician, and Data Analyst.

The central administration team is also now complete with the recent appointments of Jamie Stevenson (Communications and Marketing Manager) and Kathleen Rodger (Research Programme Manager), who will be having a phased start from December.

In November the CLAHRC Wessex held its first formal Board Meeting with colleagues from University Hospitals Southampton including Chief Executive Fiona Dalton, our partner organisations, and an external advisory panel.  The meeting was very complementary with the progress to date, and the direction and path of the programme.

With Jamie now beginning his post this week, the visibility and information around the CLAHRC Wessex will significantly increase. One of the main channels of communication in these first few days has been through social media and we expect the number of social media platforms to increase.

This Health Service Journal Awards also took place in London this week which celebrate the best of the NHS and healthcare. Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust won the award for Impact in Clinical Research and Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust both made the top ten in the country for their research departments. We congratulated them all on Twitter and followed the event live.

We have a great team of researchers in our Wessex network. Let’s make them feel appreciated. Look out for the twitter handles @Southern_NHSFT, @SolentNHSTrust and @QAhospitalnews. Oh and don’t forget us @wessex_clahrc.
